Performance Max

Performance Max is a Google Ads campaign type that uses AI to serve ads across all of Google's channels — Search, Display, YouTube, Gmail, Discover, and Maps — from one campaign.

Performance Max (often shortened to PMax) automates targeting, bidding, and placement across Google's entire inventory based on the conversion goals and creative assets you provide. Instead of managing separate campaigns per channel, you supply assets and signals and let Google's machine learning find conversions wherever they are.

PMax can be highly effective, but it's only as good as the data and creative behind it. Without clean conversion tracking and strong assets, it can drift toward cheap, low-value placements — which is why expert setup and guardrails matter.

Example

A lead-gen business runs one Performance Max campaign that shows ads on Search, YouTube, and Gmail, automatically shifting budget to whatever drives the most qualified leads.
