Simply running two ads side by side doesn't produce a fair test, because Meta's delivery system shifts spend toward whichever gets early traction. The A/B test feature controls for that by splitting the audience so each person sees only one version, then measuring which version wins on the metric you choose, along with the statistical confidence of the result.
Good tests change one variable at a time, run long enough to reach significance, and test meaningful differences — a new concept or offer, not a slightly different button color. The results become reusable lessons that inform future creative and strategy.
Example
An advertiser tests a testimonial video against a product-demo video with a 50/50 audience split; the testimonial wins on cost per lead with 92% confidence.
How Sloss Digital uses it
We run structured A/B tests on the questions that matter most — offers, creative concepts, and audiences — and build each client's creative playbook from the results.
